Just one of many series I'm late to.
Naruto Uzamaki is a kid who wants to be the greatest ninja in the world, but everyone in his village hates him. You might think it's because he's a trouble maker. I mean the first thing he's seen doing is vandalizing his village's version of Mount Rushmore. But really it's because 12 years ago the village's Hokage sealed a vicious fox spirit away in the body of a newborn child. The Hokage's dying wish was that the boy would be seen as the village's savior, but instead everyone hated the boy for something that wasn't his fault. Obviously that boy was Naruto. And for some reason it was made illegal for anyone to talk about what happened, so he knows about the demon fox, but he grows up having no idea why all the adults hate him, and all the kids hate him for no reason other than seeing their parents hate him. That's why Naruto wants to become a ninja: so he can become the next Hokage and be greater than the first ones. And then people will have to respect him.
