I FUCKING LOVE HELLSING! So far I only have three volumes (the third one is Vol. 4 bc every time I've gone to B&N the damn third volume wasn't there)... but I LOVE IT!!! You know what's better than Hellsing the manga, tho? HELLSING ULTIMATE, the anime!!!!! I've never seen any anime adaptation of Hellsing (there's at least two idk if there's more...), but I've been shown enough to know that Hellsing Ultimate is even better yet! I've seen clips a few scenes that I read through in volume 2, and the dialogue is sooo much more fucking hilarious in the anime than it is in the manga. FUCK I really really want to watch the anime! But of course I want to get the remaining 8 volumes. I won't lie I'm glad this one series is over. That way I know how many bookstore trips I'll need to get it. That'll make 8 more trips, or 7 if I decide to buy two volumes at the same time. That is of course assuming that I buy a volume every single time I go to the bookstore, until I finish the series, but I love this series so much that's on my list of priority book buys!
I'm gonna try not to go into too much detail about this series, or any others, because there's plenty of other sites out there you can read up on, like Wikipedia, or the fandom wiki, better yet. Or, you know, the manga itself. But anyway Hellsing the manga is about a secret British organization (called Hellsing), run by Sir Integra Hellsing, who is actually a chick. Because why the HELLLLL not. Anyway, their whole thing is they fight vampires and the ghouls that vampires turn people into (not all humans killed by vampires become vampires themselves). Hellsing's main asset is Alucard, who Integra found in the basement while hiding from some men who wanted to kill her because her dad put her in charge of the organization when she was still a kid and that pissed off her uncle. Alucard though, I'm told, is not the Son of Dracula, but from what I've read outside of the manga itself, is Dracula himself. Try telling me that back when I used to stay up every Saturday watching old horror pictures with Svengoolie.
Anyway, Alucard helps Hellsing, I think because he's bound/obligated to Integra somehow? (Also for whatever reason Integra has the title of "Sir" rather than "Dame" or something even though she's a fucking woman, but whatever...) But also because like he says, they have to control the population of his fellow vampires because if the vampires are just left to roam, and they turn all humans (their food source) into vampires and ghouls, well what then? Alucard is an asset to Hellsing mainly because he's a vampire, so virtually invincible, though he does have his weaknesses, which only means he knows how to kill other vampires, and he can be minced and shredded but as long as you miss his head he's fine cause he can just reassemble, as Father Anderson found out*.
Speaking of, being in a historically Protestant country, Hellsing has a rival sent by the Vatican, called "Iscariot" (named after Judas - why would Catholics want to name one of their groups after the dude who snitched on my boy J.C., idk) and their main guy is Father Alexander Anderson, an Irish Catholic who rather than work together against the other evil creatures, would prefer to beat Hellsing to the punch AND kill Alucard. How's that going for him? Well...*
Meanwhile there's other colorful characters, like Integra's butler, and Police Girl (I never bother to remember her name...she's a badass with the big guns tho). Basically what happened was her unit was sent out against this one vampire, but she was the only one alive when Alucard got to them, and the other vampire used her as a human shield, but since she was a virgin Alucard shot her anyway to hit the vampire's heart, and while she lay dying he turned her into a vampire (if you know anything at all about vampires and virgins...). And she's been with Hellsing ever since.
My main nitpick with the manga is how Police Girl is drawn. I don't want to sound like a feminist bitching that men can't draw girls realistically, but what I will say is if your gonna draw titties, draw them right. They don't need to be bulging out against her shirt like she doesn't have a bra, and they don't need to be huge. For me booby size should be proportional in relation to a female character's body, so itty-bitty titties on a petite girl (like Police Girl) is in far better taste than heavy-ass milkers. Fr tho my first exposure to porn was hentai and boy let me tell you that shit is so disturbing yet annoying at the same time... Keep hentai out of my Hellsing!!!!!
Anyway. Seriously, I fucking love this series so much! I haven't read the forth volume yet because I dont want to read it until i finally get the third damn volume! Fuck I can't believe that every time I've gone to Barnes and Noble, Vols. 1, 2, and 4 have been there (and maybe a few later volumes, I dont rember though) but not fucking Volume THREE! How! ANd why! But whatever. Two volumes and bits and peices of the anime are all I need to sell me on this series.
And by the way I gotta say I fucking LOVE Alucard! He's right up there with Eddie the Head with greatest supernatural antihero of all time. And I gotta be honest, at this point he's my fucking idol. He's such an evil powerful feind who practically mows down all his opps, but instead of hurting innocent people, he uses his evil to fight evil and protect humans. That's what I want to be. I want to be a cold brutal warcriminal, with killing coming naturally to me. I want to cruelly slaghter evry goddammed fucker who thinks he can just harm people just trying to get through life. Vampires have to consume blood to survive, so they at least have some exuse to kill, even if they're still evil (I mean they usully seem to take plesure in killing), so what's your excuse? Were you going to die if you didn't buly that poor kid? Is money you steal from elderly people on the street your life force? You had every chance to go to some kind of school and get an honest job, but noooo, you had to become a drug trafficker? I don't care who the hell you are, if you're gonna be an asshole, maybe you shoodn't be alive!!!
