Home --> Guns n Gear --> Guns I Want
Learning about the histories of Russia and Germany (especially their Soviet and Nazi periods) is a guilty pleasure for me. It is to me what watching Investigation Discovery (or I guess true crime in general) seems to be to suburban housewives. I have entire playlists on Youtube collecting Russian and Soviet music, Soviet films and Soviet cartoons. And watching that media, especially about the Bolshevik revolution or the civil war, I would occassionally spot a certain rifle over and over again, but I never could find images of it to give me a name. But a couple days ago (May 15), I finally found it. Mom took me to a gun shop we've been to several times in Delaware (not the state) that has this room where they keep their rifles and shotguns. They got Moosbergs, Marlins, Henrys, Brownings, and other cool stuff. I saw a Thompson submachine gun where all its metal parts were gold (or at least gold-plated... maybe pyrite). But what really caught my eye was an old rifle encased behind the door. I immediately recognized it before I checked the tag. It even came with a bayonet, and it was only 580 bucks!
This particular individual is of the M91/30 variant, and most likely Soviet-age, but the fact that the model in general is older than the Soviet Union, that's fucking awesome! I'm still too young to buy it (sadly), but I got a job last year, and I haven't spent any of my earnings yet, so I have more than 580 bucks, so when we go back sometime this week, I'm going to offer to pay my parents to buy it for me! I'm honestly kinda tired of only having .22 cal. I want something bigger (a reason I want many of the guns which will be on this page). This would be the oldest gun I own, if I got it. I just love the mystery around old guns. If you know much about a certain model, you know a bit about an individual gun you find. You know this gun was used by the Russian military. You know it might have been used by a Bolshevik revolutionary. But what is its exact history? Was this gun I saw made in Russia, or in America? (Specs on its tag point to Russia, but let's say I didn't have that info.) Who was the "Asiatic barbarian" who carried it to battle? Did he use it to kill Turks? Or Nazis? Or the Kaiser's men? If it was made in America, did it even make its way to Russia? Who was the guy who sold it to the shop? How did he get to have it? How could he bring himself to give it away? Only thing I do know is I'll try not to be too upset if I don't get this rifle, because hopefully one day I'll be, maybe not rich, but definitely financially responsible enough that I can afford pretty much gun I want, and so I can buy the next Mosinka I find...
